The Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour has asked the Minister for Roads and Highways when bitumen surfacing and upgrade of the following roads will commence: Nyankumase-Jakai, Jakai Assin Kruwa, Jakai -Kyi so and Assin Manso-Ochiso Haasowodze.
The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Atta presenting his answers on the floor of Parliament indicated that the Nyankumase-Jakai road is 10.60km long with a bituminous surface section from km 0.00 to 4.50 and gravel surfaced from km4.50 to km 10.60.
It is located in the Assin South District of Central region and the 4.50k maved section of the road is in poor condition.
The Minister noted that the current programme for the rehabilitation of the road is planned in phases with the phase comprising the resurfacing of the failed bituminous section (km 0.00-km 4.50).
Adding that advertisement for the procurement of works appeared in the Ghanaian Times newspaper of 20th March, 2019, however, bids have been received from eligible contractors and the draft tender evaluation report is being reviewed at Department of Feeder Roads (DFR) Head office.
Revealing that, after the above, the procurement process will continue to the eventual award of the contract to the successful bidder.
“Future programme of the phase 2 of the rehabilitation/ upgrading to bituminous surface will include the section from km 4.50 to km 10.00″, cost estimates for works within the section is under consideration, the project will be programmed for implementation under the 2020 budget subject to availability of funds”.
The Minister said the Jakai Assin Kruwa feeder road comprises of two roads namely Jakai-Nyanmbebu junction feeder road is about (13.00km) and Nyamebebu junction -Assin Kruwa feeder road (10.50km).
Both are gravel surfaced roads in poor condition and located in the Assin South District of the Central region.
The Roads and Highways Minister indicated that the programme for the upgrading to bituminous surfacing of Jakai-Nyamebebu has been divided into two phases; Phase 1st on km 0. 00 to km. 6,50 and Phase 2 from know 6.50 to know 13.00.
“The procurement of this section was considered first and is at the tender evaluation stage”.
The Minister indicated that the Jakai-Kyinso feeder road (20.00km) is an engineering road in poor surface condition, it is a gravel road located in the Assign South District of the Central Region.
He said that currently, there is no rehabilitation or upgrading programme on the road; however, routine , maintenance activities will be carried out of the road to keep it motor able and safe for use by motoring public during 2019 Maintenance Programme.
“Engineering design studies and cost estimates have been carried out on the road and will be considered for upgrading when funds become available under the year, 2020 budget.
” Assin Manso, -Aching -Haasowodze feeder road is gravel road of length 14.20km; it is an engineered road in poor condition and located in the Assin South District of the Central Region”.
The Minister indicated that currently, there is no rehabilitation or upgrading programme on road; however, routine maintenance activities will be carried out on the road to keep it motor able and safe for use by motoring public 2019 Maintenance Programme.
