Effective Coordination among State Institutions & Agencies is critical in achieving Environmental Sustainability-SYND

The National Coordinator for Strategic Youth Network for Development (SYND), Mr. Chibeze Ezekiel has called for effective coordination of state institutions and agencies in the environmental sector to enhance Ghana chances of achieving it’s climate change indicators.
According to him, it is critical and prudent to ensure that, state institutions and agencies collaborate and coordinates their respective activities and programs to consolidate Ghana gains in the environmental sector.
Mr. Chibeze Ezekiel made this remarks in an interview with www.thenewinependentonline.com at the General Annual Meeting of Strategic Youth Network for Development (SYND) and the second anniversary of Youth in Natural Resources and Environmental Governance (Youth-NREG) in Accra on 19th June, 2021 at Ampomash Hotel.
The lack of coordination in the environmental sector on the part of the state institutions and agencies is hindering the progress of the sector, affecting the fight against climate change and other related issues in the country.
However, Mr. Chibeze commended the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for their tremendous efforts, involvement and engagement of young people in its day to day activities in tackling the numerous climate-related issues as the country strive to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. (SDGs).
“ The EPA for awhile now have been proactive and engaging young people in it’s decision-making as well allowing young people to take front seat in matters relating climate related thematic areas”, he attested.
Meanwhile the National Coordinator for the youth-led organisation explained that, it is critical to engage young people actively in national discourse especially in climate-related decisions as stimulated the in the Africa Youth Charter and Ghana’s National Youth Policy.
Therefore called on government to bring on board young people who are actively involved in environmental related issues to safeguard our country, Ghana.
This he noted would not only help them cope or adapt to climate impacts but also will guarantee the sustainability of interventions by duty bearers or policymakers in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
On her part, the Communications officer for SYND, Ms., Gifty Elikplim Agbenyefia explained that Strategic Youth Network for Development (SYND) was established in September 2008 and is a youth-led organisation with the aim of contributing to youth development interventions in Ghana.
Furthermore, to achieve environmental sustainability through active youth inclusion in the governance of climate related thematic areas and as well aims to be a bridge between Ghanaian government and youth on climate and other environmental related issues.
