Ayawaso North Municipal Assembly Sensitise Citizenry On Population And Housing Census

Staff of Ayawaso North Municipal Assembly has embarked on a float on some principal streets of the Assembly to create awareness and sensitise the citizenry on the need to be counted in the ongoing 2021 Population and Housing Census (2021PHC).

The census night begun on 27th of June,2021 as enumeration of household commenced from 28th June to 11th of July, 2021, the general event was characterized with brass band, spinning of music, lighting of bonfires, traditional drumming, tolling of church bells, cultural dance, film shows and azan from mosques in various communities across the country as the key night activities geared towards educating and drawing public attention to the essence of the exercise.

The public in this regard is urged to cooperate with the census officials by providing accurate information about themselves and household members to enable the officials complete the exercise on time.

The exercise is meant for the planning and development of the country which requires the counting of every one irrespective of nationalities at a particular place thus accurate information is needed to make the necessary inputs to support national development and the proper distribution of the country’s resources.

Speaking to the media shortly after the float, the President of Council of Zongo Chiefs of Ayawaso, Chief Moro Baba Issah said the public must refrain from engaging in political discourse in the wake of the population and housing census and pointed out that it is a national asset for developmental purposes hence everyone must be counted.

The exercise was exhibited years ago in the ancient days for the distributions of resources, adding that the dynamics of the country have changed since the country had its census exercise in the year 2010 therefore the population and housing census must be embraced by the citizenry to enable government receive data at the district, municipal, regional and national levels.

“It will also help government to update its statistical data as well as developmental activities including planning, budgeting and will serve as a comprehensive framework to implement policies,” he added.

Further explained that, the information gathered will also be used as data to help address the social and economic needs of the country to enhance the growth and development of citizenry and the nation at large.

For his part, the Municipal Information Officer of Ayawaso North Assembly, Mr. Elliot Yemoh-Tetteh said both Ghanaians and non-Ghanaians will be counted including the vulnerable in every part of the assembly and the country at large.

He therefore urged the household members to cooperate with the census officials by providing the correct information to enable government provide the needs of the citizenry as well as the resources for development purposes to enhance national growth.
