Ex-Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah has praised former national team colleague, Sulley Muntari for joining Accra Hearts of Oak.
Appiah spent three seasons with the Phobians before leaving for Italy just as Muntari who left Liberty Professionals for the Serie A in 2001 after their second place finish to hosts, Argentina in the World FIFA Youth Tournament.
Muntari, 37, has signed a deal with the 21 time Ghana champions until the end of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season.
His return is the first in over a decade since leaving the shores for greener pastures – starting off at Udinese.
Stephen Appiah and Sulley Muntari played a part in Ghana’s maiden 2006 FIFA World Cup appearance in Germany and subsequently in South Africa 2010.
Sulley Muntari will make a last appearance at the 2014 FIFA World Cup but it will be marked by controversy and his subsequent expulsion from the national team camp. Stephen Appiah tweeted:
Muntari has rich experience having featured for rival Italian clubs, Inter and AC Milan – winning the UEFA Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup with the former before a loan stint with the latter.
He is an English FA Cup winner with Portsmouth in 2008 alongside Nigeria duo, Kanu Nwankwo and John Utaka and Senegal’s Papa Bouba Diop.
His other clubs include Ittihad of Saudi Arabia, Pescara, Deportivo La Coruna and Albacete of Spain.
