Legon Cities FC shrugged off last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Karela United to dismiss King Faisal 1-0 in the final first round game of the 2021/22 league season.

The Royals showed glimpses of a club rising from the ashes under coach Maxwell Konadu with forwards Hans Kwoffie and Jonah Attuquaye tormenting a resilient King Faisal side at the El Wak Sports Stadium.

First department of the week 17 encounter on Monday produced no goals but both sides sized each other up with incursions yet failing to bury any scoring opportunity.

Coaches, Maxwell Konadu and Nurudeen Amadu’s men returned for the second half very much energized and in a bid to find at least a winner.

Legon Cities however proved the hungrier side when veteran striker, Hans Kwoffied was well teed off in King Faisal’s goal area.

The former AshantiGold forward swept in a perfect cross which located speedster, Jonah Attuquaye to slot home the opener and the eventual winner on the 61st minute.

Maxwell Konadu said: “It was a difficult match, I said that the system that we have chosen to play is very difficult now a days.

“But we are managing to do the right thing or what is important in football by scoring goals. “We chose the 4-4-2 ahead of our normal usual 4-3-3 and it’s been working so far.

“Just that Wes struggle a bit in midfield and today if you quite remember before we did the substitution, creativity in midfield was a challenge.

“That’s why we brought the young midfielders in to come and change things for us. “That is what we needed and as soon as we did that change that brough the goal.

“So we continue to work hard make sure that we do the right things at the right time.” Maxwell Konadu told StarTimes.

Legon Cities have churned our impressive results in their last four games, winning two matches, drawing twice and losing just one.

They racked up eight points from the last four outings, pushing them into 12th on the league log with 21 points after the first round.

They open their second round at the Accra Sports Stadium against defending champions, Hearts of Oak which they held to a goalless draw in the first round.
