The Accra School of Hygiene (ASOH) and the School of Nursing of the Yale University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at a colorful ceremony in Accra.
The MoU seeks to promote research and innovation and will facilitate the exchange of ideas among students and the respective faculties.
In addition, the agreement will allow both bodies to address emerging trends in the fields of hygiene practices and tackle complex challenges such as climate change, environmental pollution, and degradation as well as promote hygiene practice as a fundamental aspect of public health.
Besides, it will create a platform for the formalization of a partnership built on mutual respect, shared objectives, and a common commitment to excellence in promoting public health and hygiene in the country.

Signing on behalf of the ASOH, the Principal, Mr. Smile Ametsi, said the agreement is necessary because it will symbolize a new era of collaboration, partnership, and a shared vision for the higher education of both institutions.
According to him, the MoU will further open doors of opportunities for both bodies to engage in research projects, engage in intellectual resources and scale up the exploration of new frontiers of knowledge.
“The partnership will also lead to faculty exchanges to facilitate cross-pollution of expertise and pedagogical approaches”, he said, adding that students will benefit from enhanced academic mobility as well as exposure to diverse perspectives and cultures.

“He said the institutions will fervently work together to deliver tangible outcomes and foster an environment of trust, open communication, and shared goals”, he added and indicate that the success of the agreement will be measured by the positive impact the school will inculcate in the lives of students and the society at large.
For her part, Prof. Holly Powel Kennedy, the Dean of Yale School of Nursing said the agreement spans five years and will help explore new opportunities for both institutions to harness, research, and find solutions in the fields of public health.
She hinted that Ghana has made significant progress in its healthcare delivery systems in the West African sub-region particularly nursing and midwifery space saying the practitioners have excelled in every working jurisdiction and as such the MoU will create the needed environment to exchange concepts in human health, the environment as well as share knowledge and experience.

Mr. Kweku Quasah who represented Cecilia Dapaah, the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, commended the management of the School of Hygiene for the historic agreement saying the gesture will help find solutions in the areas of sanitation and hygiene and urged both bodies to leverage on research findings for baseline studies.
