The upcoming 2024 general elections in Ghana are witnessing significant changes in the political landscape, as former Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Dan Botwe, is poised to take on the role of campaign manager for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
This development follows President Akufo-Addo’s recent appointment of MP Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah as his replacement.
While the connection between the reshuffle and Mr Botwe’s new position remains unclear, insiders close to the NPP Flagbearer suggest that the decision was the result of extensive consultations.
According to Citi News, an official announcement is expected after the National Executive Committee and National Council meetings on Monday, during which Vice President Bawumia will introduce his campaign team.
Additionally, Dr Bawumia is likely to unveil his campaign team the following week.
Commenting on the matter, NPP General Secretary Justin Koduah Frimpong emphasised the Flagbearer’s clear vision for the nation.
He contrasted this with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Flagbearer, former President John Mahama, questioning whether Mr Mahama had articulated his policy direction a year after being elected as the party’s flagbearer.
The announcement coincided with the acclamation of Samuel Abu Jinapor as the parliamentary candidate for Damongo in the Savannah Region on Saturday.
