67th Indece Day: ‘Let safeguard Ghana’s democracy’-Ayawaso Central MCE urges Constituents

As the country prepares to hold her Parliamentary and Presidential elections in December 2024,  the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ayawaso Central Assembly, Mr. Archibold Cobbina has appealed to political parties, constituents, and Ghanaians, in general, to endeavor to conduct their campaigns in decorum and avoid the use of abusive words on airwaves.

According to him, it is important as a country we safeguard the democracy and peace enjoyed since independence from colonial rulers.

“My appeal to all political parties, and the general public is that we should endeavor to conduct our campaigns without the use of temperate languages on our airwaves in a political season, we must discourage such acts and uphold the democratic credentials we have made over the years”, he charged.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Ayawaso Central Assembly, Mr. Archibold Cobbina made the appeal at the 67th Independence Day celebration at the Ayawaso Astroturf Park on 6th March 2024 in Ayawaso, a suburb in Accra.

Admonishing the constituents, especially the youth, the MCE urged the youth to promote peace and unity within their communities and resist being used to foment chaos during the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.

To him,  elections are only a means of choosing leaders for the country, and therefore the a need to be tolerant and avoid activities and actions that can plug the country into conflict.

To the Electoral Commission, Mr.  Archibold Cobbina  urged them to heed the call of His Excellency President Akufo Addo, the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, during his address,  who acknowledged that, a lot of responsibility lies on the Electoral Commission to put the necessary measures in place that will ensure Ghana have a credible election.

“His Excellency, the President also urged the Electoral Commission, to work with the political parties to iron out whatever problems they might have to ensure that we conduct a credible election on December 7 2024”, he reiterated.

In his closing remarks, he lamented of the rate of indiscipline in the country that, he called on the constituents especially the youth to desist from all form of indiscipline.

“Indiscipline in our country has eaten into the social fabric of our society. This behavior, which is contrary to the rules and regulations that govern our society, has negative consequences for everyone involved”, he noted.

He further emphasized that, indiscipline  in our offices, our schools and our personal lives can lead to a lack of focus for decision making and disregard for the well being of others

Fifteen (15) schools participated in this year 67th Independence Day parade held at the Alajo AstroTurf Park.
