Stakeholders in the education sector have been called upon to include UCMAS in the Ghanaian education curriculum to boost the mental thinking of the Ghanaian student.

According to Mrs. Rosemary Okla UCMAS Area Manager for Adenta-New Legon, the UCMAS brain developing program that helps to develop the child’s brain through the use of mathematics is of importance in the quest of building the mental knowledge of the Ghanaian child.

“It is time to integrate UCMAS into the Ghanaian curriculum to build mental knowledge and intelligence of the Ghanaian child at the early stages of education”, she reiterated.

Adding that, “It helps the child to be accurate as well as concentrate in all subjects and also enhances the creative ability of the child”.

The UCMAS Adentan Area consists of New Legon, Frafraha, Adentan, and its environs.

UCMAS stands for Universal Concept of Mental Arithmetic System. UCMAS is a Program, that uses an Abacus as the tool, Arithmetic as the evaluation process, and Kinesthetic learning as the methodology, to develop Cognitive Skills in the children between ages of 5 and 13 years.

Along with strengthening math skills, the UCMAS approach promotes whole brain development and establishes foundational building blocks like Concentration, Observation, Memory, Imagination, Comprehension, Judgement, Analysis, Reasoning, and self-confidence – core skills that inspire greater confidence and success in all subject areas and life.

The program equips them with the skills they need to improve overall academic achievement and to confidently meet life’s challenges and achieve greatness.

The six schools were Peterrock, The Children’s Garden School, Gracia Montessori, and Helga International School.

The rest were Rossamen School, and HighCrest School.

The UCMAS curriculum helps the child to be creative, to be accurate as well as concentrate and also helps the child to be very confident.

In addition, the child develops a photographic memory of the curriculum, hence helping children in so many ways.
