Following the announcement of a newly designed and improved national identity card for Nigerians, the NIMC has released further statements on the functions and issuance.
In a fresh update on the innovation, the NIMC released key facts about the new national ID which has been designed for the convenience and legitimacy of Nigerians.
In one of the factors, NIMC outlined that the card will eliminate the use of multiple cards as is the case with most Nigerians who have to operate businesses using multiple bank cards.
“The new National ID Card is a single, convenient, and General multipurpose card (GMPC), eliminating the need for multiple cards—not three.”
Up to three mediums have been designed for the application of cards which would be delivered via respective banks of applicants.
“Applicants for the card will have to request with their NIN through the self-service online portal, NIMC offices, or their respective banks.
“The card will be issued through the applicants’ respective banks in line with existing protocols with the issuance of the Debit/Credit cards.”
The gadget will be made available at designated centers for collection, or at a requested location which would attract added charges to be covered by applicants.
“The card can be picked up by holders at the designated center or delivered to the applicants at the requested location at an extra cost to be borne by the applicants.”
The NIMC is determined to reduce the unnecessary use of multiple cards and to make business transactions, personal identifications, and travel a thing of convenience for Nigerians.
