Head Coach of Asante Kotoko Prosper Narteh Ogum has begged supporters not to jeer at their players when they play at Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Asante Kotoko, after visiting Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the club’s life patron, have won two of their last three games.

Speaking at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium following the team’s victory over Legon Cities on Sunday, Coach Ogum urged the supporters not to jeer at the players when they make mistakes because representing Kotoko at home is extremely difficult.

“In terms of tactics, I believe we must be more nimble and determined to retake the initiative.

“Aside from that, I believe the supporters should be aware of how difficult it is to play at Baba Yara. The club legends including Opoku Nti, Malik Jabir, and the others attest to this.

“The problem now is that, when players make mistakes in our home games, the fans’ yelling and jeers put pressure on them, causing them to become tense, anxious, and even afraid. As a result, even when they have to move to receive a pass, they hide behind opposing players.”

Dr Ogum also thinks that if fans stop jeering at the players when they make mistakes, the players’ self-confidence will return and they will play with such skill that many football fans will be shocked.

“I will advise them to maintain their composure when they visit the stadium for the next games just as they have been doing in our previous matches against Samartex and Medeama in Tarkwa even if they make mistakes. I can assure you that these boys when they are able to express themselves, we all will be shocked with the kind of football they will play in our remaining matches.”

With five games left in the season, Kotoko’s win over the weekend puts them in 10th place in the league standings.
