UNFPA Ghana Handover Laptops, Printers & MTN Routers to Implementing Partners to foster Partnership

For Implementing Partners to facilitate the advancement of the Sexual and Reproductive Health mandate and the ICPD goals, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has handed over laptops, MTN routers, and printers to these Implementing Partners.

These laptops presented were 22 pieces, printers numbering twelve (12) pieces, and twenty-two MTN routers(22) worth about USD50,000, and to recognize the invaluable contributions of Implementing Partners (IPs) in advancing the shared goals and objectives of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) across the country.

Implementing Partners are organizations or entities that work closely with UNFPA to carry out specific program activities.

These partners play a crucial role in supporting the government of Ghana and UNFPA’s Eighth Country Programme.

At a short ceremony on Thursday, May 16th, at the Country Office in Accra, the Deputy Representative Dr. Emmily Naphambo explained that through its collaborative efforts, UNFPA supports IPs to ensure every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe while every young potential is fulfilled by providing essential resources to enhance their capacities and foster sustainable development.

She further indicated that the primary objective of handing over these laptops, printers, and MTN routers is to pledge UNFPA’s commitment to its partnerships with IPs and support IPs activities with tools to achieve the primary transformative results of UNFPA.

The handing over of these laptops, printers, and MTN routers, Mrs. said is a result of calls received year after year from Implementing Partners requesting equipment to work with to enhance the collective and shared goals and objectives of the UNFPA.

She also used the occasion to call on investors to support since procurement of this equipment is worth millions but was quick to say UNFPA will continue to mobilize resources to support and foster partnerships with Implementing Partners across the country.

“As you are aware, we are implementing our Eighth Country Programme, supporting the government of Ghana. We work in three core areas, thus ensuring that there are zero maternal deaths, ensuring that there are zero unwanted pregnancies, therefore an unmet need for family planning, as well as ensuring that there is zero gender-based violence”, she noted.

Dr. Emmily Naphambo further said UNFPA supports the government by working with several government agencies, departments, and civil society organizations to implement our work.

The UNFPA Deputy Representative pointed out that they purchased the equipment to support the Government of Ghana’s work in ensuring that they serve the population.

This equipment is to improve the work our implementing partners intend to do. You know, when we support work around maternal health, work around data and evidence generation, you need laptops, you need printers, you need internet. You know, this is a digital edge.” she asserted.

The selection of beneficiary Implementing Partners, she explained is based on the UNFPA evaluation of the different indicators of maternal health, gender-based violence, and adolescent and youth programming.

She cited the Regional Coordinating Councils which are administrative bodies at the regional level in Ghana and collaborate with UNFPA to implement maternal health, family planning, and gender-based violence initiatives.

Outlining some of the core RRCCs, she mentioned Oti, Northern, Upper East, Upper West, Greater Accra Ahafo, and Volta.

For key government departments and Agencies, she mentioned the Ministry of Gender, the Ministry of Health, the Ghana Health Service, and the Ministry of Chieftaincy.

For the Civil Society Organizations, PPAG, PAYD, HRIC, and many others she noted are part of UNFPA Implementing Partners.

Some beneficiary Implementing Partners present at the handing-over ceremony were the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Local Government.
