A sudden disruption in the water supply has left thousands of residents in Eastern Accra without access to clean water.
This is due to a burst transmission line cut off supply from the Kpong Treatment plant to the Dodowa Booster Station on Sunday, August 25, 2024.
This was contained in a press release issued by Ghana Water Limited (GWCL) and signed by the Chief Manager of PR & Communications, Stanley Martey on 27th August 2024.
The affected areas include Dodowa, Oyibi, Frafraha, Adenta, Madina, Ashongman, Haatso, La, Osu, Kanda, Airport Residential Area, Legon, and surrounding communities.
Despite initial repairs, further challenges were discovered, necessitating another shutdown. Ghana Water Limited (GWCL) engineers are working tirelessly to replace the damaged section of the transmission line, with a target completion date of Wednesday, August 28, 2024.
In the meantime, GWCL is urging consumers to conserve water and has implemented measures to minimize the impact, including supplying essential service providers like hospitals and schools with water tankers.
The company apologizes for the inconvenience and assures the public that everything possible is being done to restore supply. For assistance, consumers can contact GWCL on 0800 40000 (toll-free on Vodafone lines) or other listed numbers.
