Wilson Arthur, the chairman of the FA Cup Committee, has suggested that the Ghana national football team, the Black Stars, should be strengthened by incorporating both local and European players.

The Black Stars have faced challenges recently, failing to leave a significant mark in tournaments.

Their latest setback was a disappointing 2-0 defeat against Sudan in the second leg of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, following a goalless draw in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium.

In discussing potential strategies for the senior national team to regain its former glory, Arthur emphasized the importance of blending talent from both local and international arenas.

“There are players who are playing in the Ghana Premier League, who are playing in Tanzania League, who are playing in Rwandan League, who are playing in other African leagues who will cherish the opportunity to play at the African stage,” he stated in an interview with Citi Sports.

“Those are the players I’m saying that maybe we should expand the Black Stars who are local, as in Africa and Ghana, and have the exceptionally good players in Europe to come and join them,” he added.

The Black Stars will aim to redeem themselves in their upcoming matches against Angola and Niger next month as they complete the qualifiers.
