As the country gears up for the Presidential and Parliamentary elections, DS Mahama Iddrisu, President of Arise for Change for Economic Growth (ACEG), has officially launched the group’s new initiative, the Regional Crusade on the People’s Economy, at the Freedom Center in Kokomlemle, Accra on 29th October,2024.

This pioneering crusade aims to engage citizens directly on critical economic issues, marking a significant milestone in Ghanaian politics.

In his address, Iddrisu urged Ghanaians to reflect on the current state of the economy under the leadership of President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

He criticized the NPP administration for the sharp decline in economic performance, emphasizing that Dr. Bawumia, once hailed as the “economic messiah,” now avoids discussing the economy and focuses on digitalization instead.

“Digitalization has long been part of our development journey, even before the NPP came to power,” Iddrisu stated, adding that the focus on technology should not distract citizens from pressing economic challenges.

Highlighting issues such as the high cost of living, poor GDP growth, and overused fiscal and monetary policies, Iddrisu argued that the NPP has mismanaged the country’s resources, leading to widespread hardship.

He noted that despite ACEG’s policy recommendations to the government in 2021, they were ignored, worsening the economic situation.

ACEG, a registered organization under Ghana’s Company Act, aims to inform citizens about economic matters, organize forums and debates, and offer business training to help Ghanaians thrive in the local economy. With a membership exceeding 136,000, ACEG is actively campaigning across constituencies to support the NDC’s efforts, particularly in areas where local candidates face challenges.

Iddrisu called on all citizens to vote for John Mahama in the upcoming elections, describing the 2024 polls as a battle to “save Ghana.”

He emphasized that Mahama’s leadership would benefit not only the NDC but also workers, farmers, youth, and traditional leaders. He urged citizens to vigilantly monitor the voting process to ensure transparency and accuracy.

As the launch concluded, Iddrisu reaffirmed his call for Ghanaians to prioritize the country’s well-being and expressed confidence in Mahama’s ability to lead Ghana towards economic recovery and growth.
