Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus in Parliament has asked the Speaker to demonstrate statesmanship in the midst of the ongoing impasse in the House.
Afenyo-Markin has accused the Speaker of doing the bidding of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He says the Speaker has proven Ghanaians wrong with the perception he could bring the house together.
Addressing the press Thursday, November 07, 2024, Afenyo-Markin it was because some people in the NPP saw something good in him that they voted for him but not to come and do the bidding of the NDC.
“We the majority caucus call on Mr. Speaker one more time to demonstrate statesmanship. We want Mr. Speaker to know that although we were not happy on the day he was elected, some of our colleagues, perhaps, had seen something good in him.
“It wasn’t the NDC that put him there to do the bidding of the NDC. Perhaps, people felt that he could be someone who could bring us all together,” he stated.
He added that the Speaker’s actions are hurting democracy, adding that the Speaker is giving a hint of what would ensue should the NDC lose the upcoming election.
“There are things we cannot say into the camera but Mr. Speaker is hurting democracy. What Mr. Speaker is doing is to rehearse what the NDC will do in case should they lose power; to bring chaos, cause confusion,” he stated.
The presser by the NPP MPs followed a second adjournment of the House indefinitely by the Speaker when there was no business on the floor for discussion.
