DKT International, a non-governmental organization, recently organized a one-day workshop to educate the public on Adverse Drug Reactions (ADR) and the use of modern contraceptives. This initiative is part of DKT’s corporate social responsibility, emphasizing innovative and social marketing structures.
The workshop aimed to provide high-quality education on contraceptives and reduce the risk of sexually transmitted infections in the country. In the past, DKT has offered free counseling services at workshops, youth-friendly activities, and age-appropriate sex education.
Dr. Abdulai Adamu, General Manager for Regulatory Affairs, Pharmacovigilance, and Medical Detailing at DKT International Anglophone West Africa (AWA), stated that the regional program was designed to educate clients on the adverse effects of contraceptives to improve their products on the market. He emphasized DKT’s commitment to improving health outcomes, boosting economic development, and enhancing productivity.
While acknowledging their achievements, Dr. Adamu noted that issues regarding the quality of some medications, including contraceptives, have arisen. He urged the public to report any side effects of medications to the appropriate headquarters for further pharmaceutical improvement.
Dr. Adamu stated, “At DKT, we focus on quality and critics. We argue that while the number of ADR reports has increased, these reports must be key to leading rapid responses from the appropriate authorities.”
Speaking to the media after the training at Ascension Hall in Koforidua, Dr. Adamu debunked perceptions of impotence resulting from contraceptive use. He affirmed that DKT remains a leader in innovative marketing and education of condoms and lubricants, providing nonjudgmental sexual health information.
“When you take contraceptives, you can give birth when you need,” he added. Dr. Adamu indicated that DKT is committed to improving health outcomes among Ghanaians.
Yaa Serwah Yeboah, a Midwifery Officer at the Eastern Regional Hospital, explained that family planning allows people to attain their desired number of children and prevent unwanted pregnancies. She emphasized the importance of family planning in controlling births within a family and urged females to visit health centers providing family planning services, including female condoms.
Serwah Yeboah also cautioned the public to use condoms to help prevent the spread of HIV as the country approaches the festive season.
