Kofi Totobi Quakyi, Ghana’s former Minister for National Security, has broken his silence on allegations of involvement in post-election violence, describing the claims as “baseless” and “malicious.”

In a statement issued in Accra, Mr. Quakyi strongly refuted allegations made by Hon. Patricia Appiagyei, the NPP Member of Parliament for Asokwa, accusing him of orchestrating violent incidents following the 2024 General Elections.

Mr. Quakyi expressed disappointment in the MP’s “wayward and irresponsible statements,” noting that such accusations could undermine post-election unity and national cohesion.

Highlighting his decades of public service and commitment to Ghana’s peace and stability, Mr. Quakyi emphasized that his record as a former National Security Minister speaks for itself.

To address the matter, he has referred the allegations to the Inspector General of Police for investigation, expressing confidence in the process to ascertain the facts.

“I have served this nation with dignity and integrity, and I will not allow baseless allegations to tarnish my reputation,” Mr. Quakyi stated.

The allegations were part of a broader accusation by the NPP Majority Caucus in Parliament, which claimed that Quakyi and Larry Gbevlo-Lartey, a former National Security Coordinator, were inspiring thugs linked to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to commit acts of violence against innocent Ghanaians.

However, Mr. Quakyi’s statement has cleared the air, reaffirming his commitment to peace and stability in Ghana.

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed receipt of Mr. Quakyi’s complaint and has initiated investigations into the matter.
