As the world celebrates International Women’s Day, the Women in Wash Advocacy Network is calling for renewed action to address the persistent gender inequalities in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH).

According to a statement released by the network, millions of women and girls continue to lack access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene, hindering their ability to reach their full potential.

According to the Women in WASH Advocacy Network “Gender inequality in wash is a pressing issue that affects not only women and girls but also entire communities.”

“We must take action to address these inequalities and ensure that women and girls have access to safe, dignified, and inclusive wash services,” The release noted.

The network is calling for accelerated action in three key areas, namely, increased women’s participation in wash leadership and governance, investment in gender-sensitive wash infrastructure, and strengthened enforcement mechanisms.

By accelerating action on gender equality in WASH, the network believes that women and girls can be empowered to lead healthier, more productive lives and that a more equitable and just society can be achieved.

The release further explained that there is a need to support organizations working to address gender inequality in WASH, advocate for policy changes that promote gender equality in WASH, and raise awareness about the importance of gender equality in WASH.
