Ghana Meteorological Agency Engages Ga Traditional Council on Impending Rainy Season

As Ghana prepares for the impending rainy season, the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has engaged the Ga Traditional Council to discuss the potential impacts of heavy rainfall on the region.

The delegation led by Mrs. Francisca Martey, Deputy Director for Research and Applied Meteorology at GMet, aimed to promote public awareness and preparedness for weather-related hazards.

Interacting with the Ga Mantse and the Traditional Council, Mrs. Martey revealed that the rains are expected to begin in the fourth week of March and continue through to May.

According to her, the East Coast will start experiencing rainfall from the second week of April, with rainfall levels projected to increase to 420 millimeters, exceeding the seasonal average.

Therefore  she appealed and urged the public to take proactive measures to prevent flooding, such as clearing gutters and managing waste properly.”

And also called on Agricultural Extension Officers to educate farmers to prepare for climate-smart agricultural practices to mitigate potential losses.

Welcoming the team to to his palace, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, Ga Mantse, expressed his gratitude for the engagement and commended GMet for providing timely and accurate information on weather patterns.

He emphasized the importance of community preparedness and resilience in the face of weather-related hazards.

The engagement is part of GMet’s efforts to collaborate with local communities and traditional leaders to promote public awareness and preparedness for weather-related hazards.

By working together, GMet and the Ga Traditional Council aim to reduce the risk of flooding and other disasters in the region.

As the rainy season approaches, GMet urges all Ghanaians to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and the safety of their properties.
