Vivo Energy Group, a prominent player in the oil and gas industry, has announced plans to increase female participation in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) to 40% by the end of 2026.

The company aims to achieve this through the “She Power” initiative, which promotes gender diversity and nurtures female talent across Ghana.

Speaking at the inaugural “She Power” Summit held on Monday, March 24, 2015, in Accra, Vivo Energy Group’s Chief HR Officer, Reinette Wessel, emphasized the importance of diversity and inclusion in driving business success.

“Our goal is to create a workplace where everyone feels valued and empowered to succeed,” she stated.

To meet its objectives, Vivo Energy Group plans to implement various initiatives, including internship programs, mentorship schemes, training and development programs, and partnerships with educational institutions.

Currently, women make up 34.5% of Vivo Energy Group’s workforce across Africa, with 43% holding professional and skilled positions. This is in contrast to the global average of females in the oil and gas industry, which stands at 23%.

Vivo Energy Group’s commitment to diversity and inclusion is expected to positively impact the industry, paving the way for more women to pursue careers in STEM fields.

Furthermore, the initiative provides opportunities for women to develop new skills, build confidence, and become role models in their communities.

Reinette Wessel reiterated, “We believe that diversity and inclusion are essential to driving business success. Our ‘She Power’ initiative is a key part of our strategy to attract, retain, and develop female talent in STEM fields.”

Vivo Energy Group is a leading entity in the oil and gas sector, operating in various countries across Africa.
