President John Dramani Mahama has declared that no additional disciplinary measures will be imposed on Sammy Gyamfi, the acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, following the emergence of a contentious video in which he was seen giving an undisclosed sum of U.S. dollars to evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, commonly referred to as Nana Agradaa.

The video, which gained significant attention online, sparked considerable public outcry and raised alarms regarding a potential violation of Ghana’s Foreign Exchange Act and the ethical standards expected of public officials.

In response to the incident, civil society organizations and members of the opposition called for Gyamfi’s termination, asserting that his actions compromised public trust and breached the expected conduct for government representatives.

Nevertheless, President Mahama has opted to accept Mr. Gyamfi’s public apology and conclude the matter, albeit with a serious admonition.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of Government Communications, communicated the President’s stance during a press briefing, indicating that while the incident is unfortunate, no further actions will be taken against Mr. Gyamfi.

However, a strong warning has been issued to him and all public officials to diligently follow the Code of Conduct and consistently act in ways that maintain public trust.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu emphasized the President’s dedication to accountability and ethical governance, while also noting that the circumstances did not justify Gyamfi’s dismissal.

This decision highlights the balance between accountability and leniency in governance, sparking discussions about the standards expected of public officials in Ghana.
