The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has expressed the government’s dedication to enforcing the laws that safeguard the work of Members of CopyGhana.

He stated that this is the most reliable method to ensure that those within the Copyright ecosystem reap the benefits of intellectual properties.

Dr. Ayine’s address was delivered on his behalf by a staff member of the Ministry during a Stakeholders’ engagement organised in collaboration with the International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organisations (IFRRO), World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and the Ghana Copyright Office, on Monday, 9th June, 2025 at the GNAT Hall, Accra, Ghana.

“To our Curators, Authors, Visual Artists, and Photographers, I affirm that your work is significant. The law supports you.

The government is committed to reinforcing the frameworks that protect your creations, both online and offline,” Dr. Ayine stressed.

He noted that the enforcement of copyright law is not merely an afterthought but a constitutional mandate that must be executed thoroughly, emphasizing the critical nature of collective licensing.

He assured that Ghana is prepared to contribute to shaping a fair and progressive copyright agenda for Africa and the global community.

However, he emphasized that as Ghana navigates through a period of swift technological progress, we must remain mindful of our collective duty to honor creativity and reward originality.

He subsequently reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing the legal framework for collective licensing, improving compliance and enforcement mechanisms, promoting public awareness, and advocating for copyright as a fundamental aspect of Ghana’s development.

“Let us collaborate—government, academia, Curators, Users, and CSOs—to ensure that the creative economy is not only protected but also empowered to flourish,” the Attorney General urged.

He also praised CopyGhana for their commitment to raising awareness, along with the International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organisations (IFRRO) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) for their ongoing support to Copy Ghana.

CopyGhana is the Reproduction Rights Organization (RRO) of Ghana, which licenses educational institutions and organizations to copy and reuse copyright protected materials from print and digital publications assigned to it by the rightsholders.

Established in 2011, CopyGhana has built a solid reputation and extensive networks in what we do over the years. We license and grant permissions for copyright users to reproduce various types of literary works, collect fees, and remunerate copyright holders. The organization focuses on three copyright areas: literary works, artistic works, and photographic works.
