The Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC), in collaboration with the Inter-Governmental Action Group Against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA), has taken a significant step towards enhancing public participation in Ghana’s asset recovery initiatives.

A sensitization workshop, organized on Tuesday, 17th June 2025, brought together civil society representatives, journalists, and officials from key anti-corruption organizations.

Building Public Support for Asset Recovery
The workshop, themed “Building Political Will and Public Support for Asset Recovery in Ghana,” aimed to analyze the legal and institutional frameworks governing the recovery and management of criminal proceeds.

Participants gained valuable insights into Ghana’s asset recovery processes, enabling them to promote transparency and accountability in the fight against corruption.

Empowering Civil Society and Media
Mrs. Beauty Emefa Narteh, Executive Secretary of GACC, emphasized the importance of civil society organizations (CSOs) and the media having a deep understanding of Ghana’s legal framework on asset recovery.

She noted that this knowledge would empower them to convey accurate information and mobilize civic involvement in the anti-corruption effort.

Progress and Challenges
Mrs. Narteh acknowledged the progress made by state institutions in exhibiting increased professionalism in asset recovery, reducing susceptibility to political interference.

However, she also highlighted the critical role of the media in maintaining public trust, warning that any failure on their part could leave the public with incomplete information.

Future Plans
GACC plans to organize similar workshops across the regions to enhance public understanding and build a more informed anti-corruption coalition.

The organization expressed gratitude to GIABA for its ongoing support and looks forward to continued collaboration in the fight against corruption.

The workshop marks a significant step towards empowering civil society and promoting transparency and accountability in Ghana’s asset recovery initiatives.

By working together, GACC, GIABA, and other stakeholders can build a stronger, more informed anti-corruption coalition that can effectively combat corruption and promote good governance in Ghana.
