The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, in collaboration with Our Rescue Ghana, has taken significant steps in the fight against human trafficking by providing training for law enforcement officers.

This two-day capacity-building workshop aimed to equip officers with the knowledge and tools needed to combat human trafficking in Ghana.

The training covered several key areas, including child trafficking, victim identification, and inter-agency collaboration.

It also highlighted the growing connections between human trafficking and organized crime, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive approach to tackle this complex issue.

The Ministry reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to protecting the human rights of all individuals and preventing human trafficking.

The establishment of anti-human trafficking units at regional police offices further demonstrates the government’s dedication to addressing this issue.

During the workshop, a speech was read on behalf of the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection by Abena Annobea Asare, Head of the Human Trafficking Unit.

She emphasized the necessity for law enforcement personnel to receive adequate training to handle trafficking cases professionally and encouraged participants to act as ambassadors, sharing the knowledge they gained with their colleagues.

The Minister expressed appreciation for the unwavering efforts of law enforcement officers and looked forward to continued achievements in the fight against human trafficking.

On behalf of the Ghana Police Service, Director of Operations William Ayaregah noted that anti-human trafficking units have been established at various regional police offices specifically to handle trafficking-related cases.

This development underscores the police service’s commitment to effectively addressing the issue of human trafficking.

The workshop also emphasized the importance of collaboration and information-sharing among agencies in combating human trafficking.

By working together, law enforcement agencies, government ministries, and civil society organizations can more effectively identify and prosecute traffickers, support survivors, and prevent further exploitation.

The training represents a crucial step toward enhancing the capacity of law enforcement officers to combat human trafficking in Ghana.

With continued efforts and collaboration, Ghana can make significant progress in preventing human trafficking and protecting the rights of all individuals.
