The Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to Ghana, H.E. Jürgen Heissel, has paid a courtesy call on the Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, Hon. Seidu Issifu, to discuss opportunities for collaboration in environmental protection, renewable energy, climate finance, and green innovation.
The Ambassador described the appointment of Hon. Seidu as historic, praising H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, for demonstrating strong political will in placing climate change at the heart of national development through the creation of a dedicated ministerial office.
Hon. Seidu Issifu expressed gratitude for the Ambassador’s visit and highlighted that his appointment represents the highest political and governance leadership ever conferred on the climate agenda in Ghana.
He shared his personal vision to establish a Climate Change and Sustainability Hub—a centre of excellence for research, innovation, capacity development, and stakeholder engagement.

He also outlined plans to create Climate Change and Sustainability Units in all Ministries, Agencies, and the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies to integrate climate action across all levels of government.
In addition, he announced plans to host a Climate Business Summit in Ghana to foster private sector investment and promote green innovation.
Ambassador Heissel welcomed these forward-thinking initiatives and reaffirmed Austria’s interest in aligning its expertise with Ghana’s climate priorities.
He highlighted opportunities for institutional partnerships, academic scholarships, and cultural exchanges as pathways to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
