The Africa Health Sovereignty Summit, scheduled for August 5, 2025, in Accra, will bring together African Heads of State, policymakers, and global health stakeholders to reshape global health governance.

The summit aims to prioritize African health sovereignty and leadership.

Key highlights include the launch of The Accra Initiative, a framework for reforming global health governance, and the SUSTAIN Initiative, which will strengthen country-led health systems.

The summit will also adopt the Accra Compact, articulating Africa’s vision for health sovereignty and a fairer global health order.

The event builds on efforts by African Union institutions and leaders to improve continental health financing and coordination.

President John Dramani Mahama emphasized the need for Africa to take charge of its health destiny through coordinated actions.

The summit will provide a platform for African leaders to design a new global health governance architecture and promote country-led and investment-driven health systems.
