FIDA Ghana has condemned the actions of an Assistant Senior High School teacher, whose behavior, captured on video, constitutes a serious breach of professional ethics and safeguarding responsibilities.

Susan Aryeetey, the Acting Executive Director of FIDA Ghana, stated that the actions displayed in the video are a betrayal of the teacher’s responsibilities and are entirely unacceptable.

In a press release, FIDA Ghana is demanding the teacher’s immediate dismissal from the educational service and a permanent prohibition against securing employment at any public or private educational institution.

The release, signed by Mrs. Susan Aryeetey, also commended the Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection for working with the Ghana Police Service to expedite the arrest of the Assistant Headmaster.

The FIDA Ghana Acting Executive Director urged the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to take prompt action to apprehend and prosecute the offender.

FIDA Ghana also called on the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service (GES), and law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation, ensuring that prosecution follows swiftly.

The press release referenced the Safe Schools Initiative introduced by the GES in 2018, aimed at combating violence in schools and fostering safe and protective learning environments for students.

It emphasized that this incident highlights the urgent need to fully implement and enforce the Safe Schools framework across all educational institutions.

In conclusion, FIDA Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to support the GES and other stakeholders in strengthening safeguarding policies, ensuring strict enforcement, and empowering communities to demand accountability.

“Schools must remain safe spaces for learning, never arenas for exploitation. Every child deserves to feel safe in school, and leadership at every level must demonstrate zero tolerance for abuse,” the release reiterated.
