Accra, Nov. 27- World Vision Ghana, the local arm of the global charity World Vision International, has unveiled a US $51.6 million business plan for 2026‑2030 aimed at strengthening water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services across Ghana.

The initiative, dubbed *Mapping the Blue Thread Financing Program*, seeks to achieve universal WASH coverage in 23 districts, extending essential services to households, schools, and health facilities.

Speaking at the launch on Wednesday, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, Minister of Works, Housing, and Water Resources, described the program as a decisive step toward improving community well‑being. “This vision closely aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 6—clean water and sanitation for all—as well as the broader development aspirations of the Government of Ghana,” he said, urging all stakeholders to rally behind the ambitious plan.

Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, thanked development partners and NGOs for their partnership, noting their contributions have driven Ghana’s WASH progress.

“The collaboration we’ve seen so far has been remarkable, and we pledge the government’s continued support to meet the targets set out in this business plan,” she added.

Tinah Mukunda, National Director of World Vision Ghana, highlighted the power of collaboration. “Universal access means that everyone, everywhere across our project implementation areas will have access to water, sanitation, and hygiene services,” she said, underscoring the organization’s belief that partnerships accelerate impact.

Mukunda further explained that the program will leverage World Vision’s extensive field presence in Ghana, working hand‑in‑hand with district assemblies, community water boards, and local NGOs.

The Mapping the Blue Thread program will concentrate on building and rehabilitating water systems, boreholes, and sanitation facilities to reach underserved communities.

It will also focus on training local authorities, school management committees, and community volunteers on sustainable WASH practices and maintenance, while promoting hygiene education and community ownership to ensure long‑term sustainability.

Ghana still faces significant WASH challenges. According to the latest Joint Monitoring Programme report, approximately 7 million Ghanaians lack basic water services, and over 12 million lack safely managed sanitation.

The new business plan is projected to directly benefit more than 2.5 million people, with a particular focus on vulnerable groups such as children, women, and persons with disabilities.

“Investing in WASH is investing in health, education, and economic growth,” said Adjei. “When communities have reliable water and sanitation, children spend more days in school, women save time fetching water, and households can redirect resources to nutrition and entrepreneurship.”

The program also aligns with Ghana’s National WASH Policy and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, reinforcing the country’s commitment to leaving no one behind.
