The Class Media Group (CMG) has strongly condemned the assault on one of its journalists by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service, describing the incident as a threat to press freedom and the safety of media practitioners.
In a statement issued on January 5, 2026, the Executive Chairman of CMG, Alhaji Seidu Agongo, expressed deep concern over the incident and called for swift action to ensure accountability.
According to the statement, the journalist was attacked while performing his lawful duties. CMG stressed that such conduct undermines Ghana’s democratic credentials and its reputation as a country that upholds media freedom.
“Such incidents not only threaten press freedom and the safety of journalists but also undermine Ghana’s credibility and standing as a champion of media rights,” the statement noted.
The media group urged the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough, impartial, and expedited investigation to establish the facts surrounding the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
CMG further called on all stakeholders to cooperate fully to safeguard journalists and ensure that media practitioners can operate without fear or intimidation.
Despite the incident, the group reaffirmed its commitment to responsible journalism and appealed for calm as investigations proceed.
The development adds to growing concerns by media organisations and press freedom advocates over the safety of journalists in the line of duty.
