Accra, Ghana – Alhaji Seidu Agongo, founder of the Class Media Group, has expressed “deep concern” over the recent assault of one of the group’s journalists, Samuel Addo, by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

In a statement released on Monday, Agongo described the incident, captured on video, as “a blot on the discipline, integrity and core mandate” of the fire service and called the footage “despicable”.

He assured the victim of “the best possible health care and legal support” and pledged that Class Media Group will “stand firmly behind him” until the matter is fully investigated and those responsible are punished.

Agongo thanked fellow media houses and Ghanaians for condemning the attack and urged the Ghana Police Service to conduct a “dispassionate” investigation, emphasizing that the case “is not just about one journalist—it is about safeguarding the rights of all citizens and preserving Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of press freedom”.

The GNFS has since confirmed that the police have opened an investigation into the alleged assault and has promised full cooperation. The fire service’s management has remained silent, but the police have assured the public that the matter will be pursued impartially.

The incident, which occurred while Addo was covering a fire outbreak at the Kasoa New Market, has sparked widespread outrage among journalists and press‑freedom advocates, who are calling for accountability and a swift resolution.
