Accra, Ghana – Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, Ghana’s Minister of Energy and Green Transition, announced firm measures to address the persistent meter shortages in the country’s power sector.

During the opening of MBH Power Ghana Ltd., a meter manufacturing company in Tema, the Minister voiced his serious concern over the difficulties faced by consumers and the effects on utility financial health.

“Metering is essential for fairness, transparency, and protecting revenue in our power sector,” he emphasized. He instructed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO) to resolve supply issues and improve distribution processes.

He outlined several key steps, including boosting local meter production to meet demand, setting a seven-day deadline for ECG and the Energy Commission to fix meter reading problems, upgrading transformers to avoid overloads and outages, and enhancing complaint handling for quicker resolution of consumer issues.

The Minister stated that power generation capacity is sufficient, noting the government’s success in adding significant capacity over the past 11 months, which has ended load shedding. He said distribution issues are the current challenge and are being tackled.

Niket Goel, Director of MBH Power Ghana Ltd., mentioned that his company has been a key player in Ghana’s power sector since 2007, involved in projects like the supply and installation of shunt capacitors and electrification projects in Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions.

“We are dedicated to supporting Ghana’s economic growth and providing reliable energy,” Goel said during the opening ceremony, attended by dignitaries including the Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition.

The new factory aims to reduce power theft and boost revenue for distribution and generation companies. MBH Power plans to expand the factory’s capacity in the future, reaffirming its commitment to Ghana’s development.

“We are not just investors but partners in progress,” Goel added. The factory inauguration shows MBH Power’s confidence in Ghana’s economic prospects and its dedication to national growth.

The event was attended by energy sector stakeholders, who praised the initiative and are optimistic about its positive impact on Ghana’s power sector.
