Accra, Ghana – Ghana Water Ltd’s Managing Director, Hon. Adam Mutawakilu, has emphasized the importance of equitable access to water, highlighting its role in empowering women and girls, reducing inequalities, and strengthening communities on World Water Day 2026.

The theme, “Water and Gender: Where Water Flows, Equality Grows,” resonates with Ghana Water Ltd’s vision to build a resilient and customer-focused water utility.

However, the MD acknowledged that, the company faces challenges such as pollution of water bodies, high cost of water treatment due to deteriorating raw water quality, aging infrastructure, operational constraints, and rising demand driven by urbanization and population growth.

Despite these challenges, Hon. Adam Mutawakilu noted that, Ghana Water Ltd is expanding and rehabilitating water supply systems, investing in modern treatment technologies, strengthening partnerships with government and development agencies, enhancing operational efficiency, and promoting sustainable water resource management.

“The company aims to achieve 100% access to safe water, aligning with the government’s vision and SDG 6. Mutawakilu urges customers to play their part by paying bills promptly through convenient electronic payment platforms, using water wisely, protecting water bodies, and supporting community efforts to keep the environment clean and sustainable”, he reiterated.

Adding “Ghana Water Ltd’s initiatives aim to ensure sustainable water supply for all Ghanaians, regardless of location, gender, or socio-economic status. The company remains committed to delivering safe, reliable, and affordable water to every Ghanaian”.
