Accra, Ghana – Kingsley Obeng-Kyereh Executive Coordinator of Children and Youth in Broadcasting (CYIB), widely known as Curious Minds (CM), shared his motivation for continuously investing in young people. He emphasized the importance of thinking long-term and laying a foundation for the future.

During the official launch of Curious Minds’ 30th anniversary on April 1, 2026, at the British Council in Accra, Mr. Obeng-Kyereh highlighted that young people are the future, and investing in them is vital for national growth. “If you are talking about the future, it’s about what you are building today,” he said, comparing it to farming – “August is the harvest season, but you need to plant in April or May, or you’ll have nothing.”

Mr. Kingsley Obeng-Kyereh also known widely among young people as KOK explained that his motivation comes from witnessing the positive effects of early support for youth. “For those I pushed earlier and supported earlier and worked with, they are thriving. That means you can’t stop the process. It’s a cycle. They will go. New ones will come in. They will need similar support.”

He stressed the importance of taking the initiative and creating opportunities, saying, “Sometimes you have to take the lead and go and open avenues for them at places, speak for them at places, so that they get a chance to engage.”

He voiced concern about the tendency to focus on short-term gains rather than long-term investments in youth development, stating, “Don’t think about immediate results. Money is important, but the extreme love of it will push us into trouble.” Mr. Obeng-Kyereh criticized some organizations and individuals for prioritizing money over the well-being of young people, noting that such attitudes can contribute to societal issues.

Mr. Obeng-Kyereh called for a mindset shift, urging stakeholders to focus on empowering young people instead of exploiting them. He underscored that investing in youth is not just a moral duty but a necessary step toward building a better future for Ghana.

The event underscored Curious Minds’ dedication to empowering young people and shaping Ghana’s future through their meaningful inclusion in the development process.
