Asante Kotoko have taken what could be termed as an “unassailable lead” on the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League log.
The Porcupine Warriors stretched their lead atop the table to nine after seeing off Great Olympics by 2-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium in match week 15. The record Ghana Premier League holders now have 33 points from 14 matches and a week seven outstanding clash against arch rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak in February. Second placed club, Aduana Stars are on 24 points and will face third place Bechem United in week 15 at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park later in the day.
Defending champions, Hearts of Oak are 13 points behind their rivals and next host in form Ming Faisal in Accra with the title gradually slipping out of their hands. That notwithstanding, Kotoko head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum believes it is early to tag the club as league winners. “We are not there yet, this is match day 15,so match day 15, 19 more matches to go.
“So the points that are left to be fought for are more than the one we have accumulated so we are not there yet. “No room for complacency, we need to stay focused, we need to keep doing what we are doing right and we have to make sure that we are not complacent. “We don’t have to be over confident anyway anywhere along the line. “We have to stay focused, keep working hard and make sure that the right things are done.” Prosper Narteh Ogum told StarTimes. Asante Kotoko have won 10 games, recording three draws and just a single loss in their basket.
