The Dean of the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Ghana, Prof. Sandow Mark Yidana says plans are underway to establish an entrepreneurial hub within the school.
The hub, according to him, aims to empower students by enhancing their entrepreneurial skills and equipping them to create their own opportunities in the job market.
Speaking at the maiden Career Fair themed “Pathways to Career Success – Gen Z, 4IR and Future of Work”, Prof Yidana emphasised that this initiative was part of a broader strategy to prepare students for a rapidly changing job landscape.
He highlighted the importance of nurturing students’ entrepreneurial abilities alongside their academic pursuits.

“We have records of our alumni who have established their own industries and they are doing well. Some of them have the content but they just need the spark. So we have that component within the academic year, we’re going to organise another programme like this and outdoor that one also.
“This is all about enabling our students to find better opportunities when they complete and also sharpen their skills to be able to create opportunities for themselves so that it will not be like they have finished and are now looking for a job,” he said on Friday.

Touching on the career fair, Prof Yidana urged students should make use of the opportunities available.
“That is why today we’ve canceled lectures, this is a lecture on its own, so they should interact with the industry players here and then identify opportunities that fit their discipline,” he stated.
The Recruitment and Selection Manager, Ghana Commercial Bank, Marie-Antoinette Mensah, on her part, told students not to shortchange their future careers for the comfort of today.

“This fair is really what we need because we know the importance of practicality in this course and fairs like this enlighten us about the opportunities out there,” one student said.
