Christian Kwabena Andrews, also known as ‘Kyiri Abosom’, the founder and leader of Ghana Union Movement (GUM), has promised to resuscitate the abandoned factories built by Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president.
Unlike the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) which believes in privatisation, Kyiri Abosom says he doesn’t believe in it and would want the State to own back every factory that belongs it.
He tells OnuaOnline in an exclusive interview Wednesday, August 21, 2024, that “we are going to bring back the abandoned factories which have been destroyed for all these years. These people, they believe in privatization. Me, I don’t believe in that.”
The man that came third in the 2020 presidential elections has bemoaned the wanton dissipation of State resources which is not reaping any benefits for the citizens.
He condemned the millions of dollars expensed for the coverage of the 13th African Games for instance, stating that the sum could have been channeled into something beneficial.
“Look at what’s happening recently. Sports Ministry giving GBC US$3 million for people to watch football. Now GBC are coming out to say we collected just US$105,000.
“That very 1 million dollar can even put up two separate companies. Why can’t they do it for the youth? So about six companies can be built by that 3 million dollars but they won’t do it. You have just given it to somebody for us to watch football while the people are not working,” he lamented.
“I believe in something that Africa can do. We can do it ourselves so that we can change the situation,” he added.
Kyiri Abosom also urged Ghanaians to reject the NPP and NDC in the upcoming polls since their policies have not been beneficial to the entire nation but only a section of the populace.
“It’s better they avoid NDC and NPP because whatever they do doesn’t cover everybody in this country,” he asserted.
In his explanation, he stated that certain projects the two parties have touted themselves with, such as construction of interchanges and regional hospitals benefit only the people in the specific areas they are constructed.
“They tell you we have built a regional hospital, those in Tamale what are they going to get from that regional hospital? I’ve built Kasoa Interchange, what about those in Sefwi Wiawso?” he quizzed.
