Former President John Dramani Mahama has responded to President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on his call on him to clarify his proposal for addressing illegal mining otherwise known as ‘galamsey’.

John Mahama says he has stated and explained his approach to dealing with the menace in a 3-hour programme at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), and cannot fathom why the President is still calling him out.

He has tasked the President to call on his media team at the presidency to get him the tapes to apprise himself.

Speaking at Old Ningo during the fourth leg of his Greater Accra campaign tour Thursday, October 17, 2024, the flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) questioned the credibility of President Akufo- Addo’s campaign for his Vice President who is running away from the ills of his administration.

He told Akufo-Addo to deal with the canker as President of the land until he (Mahama) assumes office in 2025 when Ghanaians have voted for him to take over the affairs of the State to deal with the menace.

“It looks like he doesn’t live in this country because I have commented on galamsey over and over again. The University of Energy and Natural Resources gave political leaders the platform to outline their policy on small-scale mining.

“I outlined our policy, after that there was questioning and answering for two hours. We were there for three hours. He should just get his Flagstaff House (Jubilee House) media to get him the tape of what I said at the University of Energy and Natural Resources.

“He is currently the President of Ghana and it is his responsibility to deal with galamsey now. I know that after 7th January 2025, when Ghanaians have voted voted for me, I will take that responsibility and we will sort out illegal mining,” John Mahama outlined.
