In a bid to curb the rising tide of industrial disputes and strikes, the National Labour Commission of Ghana has taken a proactive step to engage social partners in the education sector.
The engagement held on Friday, December 20, 2024, brought together stakeholders and social partners in the education sector to foster a peaceful industrial relations environment.
According to Hon Ofosu Asamoah, Executive Secretary of the National Labour Commission, the commission’s initiative aims to promote industrial peace and prevent labour disputes in the education sector.
He further reiterated that, “We believe that education and sensitization are key to preventing labour disputes and promoting industrial peace.
He believes that, “By bringing together key stakeholders, we aim to identify and address recurring issues that lead to industrial disputes.”
The commission has launched sector-specific labour education to address the unique challenges facing the education sector.
The commission has also engaged social partners in the education sector, including teachers’ unions, school administrators, and government officials.
Through this collaboration, the commission aims to foster a culture of dialogue and cooperation, rather than confrontation.
Following its engagement with the education sector, the National Labour Commission plans to extend its initiative to other sectors, including healthcare and the media.
The commission believes that its proactive approach will help to promote industrial peace and prevent labour disputes across all sectors.
The commission has for the past 19years since its establishment been working hard to ensure that the rights of both the employer and employee are protected and that no one party takes advantage of the other.
