In a powerful and inspiring address, Dr. Mrs Afua Abedi Lartey, Gender Advocate and lecturer, have urged women to look beyond their certificates and develop new skills to succeed in today’s fast-paced world.
The Gender advocate emphasized that society’s expectations of women’s roles should not limit their potential and encouraged women to tap into their God-given talents to achieve greatness.
Dr Mrs Afua Abedi Lartey call to action is particularly significant in the context of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
She made the call at a symposium organized by Mavis Inspires in collaboration with UniMac-GIJ and UniMac-IJ SRC to celebrates this year International Women’s Day 2025 under the theme: Empowering Women: Breaking Barriers, accelerating Change held on Monday, 1oth March, 2025.
The SDGs, which aim to promote economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental protection, include a specific goal dedicated to achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls.
Despite progress made towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which preceded the SDGs, significant gaps remain in terms of gender equality.
The Gender advocate and lecturer noted that the SDGs offer a fresh opportunity for governments, institutions, and individuals to work towards achieving gender equality and urged women to take advantage of this momentum.
In a major development, Ghana has enacted the Affirmative Action Law, which aims to promote gender equality and equity.
The law is a significant step forward in addressing the systemic barriers that have historically prevented women from reaching their full potential.
The advocate encouraged women to take advantage of this progressive legislation and urged institutions to support women in rising beyond their limits.
Dr Mrs Afua Abedi Lartey message is a timely reminder that women’s empowerment is crucial for achieving a more equitable society.
