Mrs. Rrosemary Osei Kuffour, Founder of the Young Public Speaking (YPS) challenge, has called on parents to encourage their children to develop their public speaking skills.

This call to action is aimed at empowering Ghana’s next generation of leaders to become effective communicators.

Speaking during the Kids Parliament held on Saturday, 15th March, 2025 in Accra, Mrs. Osei Kuffour mphasized the importance of recognizing and nurturing the potential in children to become effective communicators.

According to her, “As a parent, it’s essential to recognize the potential in your child and provide them with opportunities to develop their public speaking skills.”

She further indicated that, public speaking is an essential skill that can benefit children in all aspects of life, from academics to personal relationships.

Outling some of the benefits of public speaking skills for children, she pointed out that, such platforms improves the academic performance of children stating that,  children are able to articulate their thoughts and ideas more effectively, leading to better academic performance.

Secondly, developing public speaking skills of children can help children build confidence in themselves and their abilities as well as enhance their career opportunities since public speaking skills are highly valued in the workplace, and can open up career opportunities for children as they grow older.

Mrs. Osei Kuffour reiterated that public speaking skills can help children communicate more effectively with others, leading to stronger, more meaningful relationships.

To encourage public speaking skills in children, Mrs. Osei Kuffour advised parents to povide opportunities for children to speak in front of family members or friends, help children practice public speaking skills through role-playing or other activities.

The YPS challenge, is an initiative of the Learning Tree Foundation, that aims to empower Ghana’s next generation of leaders by providing a platform for children to develop their public speaking skills.

The program consists of nine episodes, with each episode designed to test the students’ public speaking skills in a unique way.

The YPS challenge is more than just a public speaking competition – it’s a platform for empowering Ghana’s next generation of leaders.

By providing children with the skills and confidence they need to express themselves effectively, the program is helping to shape the future of Ghana’s leaders.

RoseMary Osei Kuffour noted,  “We believe that every child has the potential to become a great leader, and we’re committed to helping them develop the skills they need to succeed.”

Mrs. Osei Kuffour further revealed that, these children would have the opportunity to participate in this year United Nations Kids Summit slated for 20th June, 2025.

She further explained that, the UN Kids Summit aims to provide more opportunities and platforms for these children to discover, explore and express  themselves in the field of interest and countries as they provide solutions to challenges of these countries.

The UN Kids Summit was officially lainched on Saturday, 15th March, 2025 in Accra.
