Ghana’s economy picked up pace in October 2025, posting a year‑on‑year growth of 3.8 % compared with 3.0 % in the same month a year earlier, according to the Monthly Indicator of Economic Growth (MIEG) released by the Ghana Statistical Service on January 14, 2026.
The data, presented by Government Statistician Alhassan Iddrisu (PhD), highlighted the services sector as the main driver of the expansion, growing by 5.5 % and accounting for nearly three‑quarters of the overall increase. Communication and wholesale‑and‑retail trade sub‑sectors were particularly robust.
The industrial sector also improved, rising 3.0 % in October 2025 versus a modest 0.4 % growth a year before, contributing about 28.7 % to total growth. In contrast, agriculture slowed, growing only 0.9 % compared with 2.1 % in the previous year, and contributed just 1.3 % to the overall figure.
The MIEG index level for October 2025 stood at 112.7 (base year 2023 = 100), up from 108.6 in October 2024. The report notes that the figures are provisional and classified as experimental statistics, meaning they are subject to revision as more comprehensive data become available. Because the index is not seasonally adjusted, only year‑on‑year growth rates are published, and users are advised to interpret the data with caution.
The Ghana Statistical Service aims to release the MIEG within 75 days of the reference month, with the next publication—covering November 2025—scheduled for February 11, 2026.
