A comprehensive campaign to change the negative perceptions society has about Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Ghana has been launched in Accra.

The campaign dubbed “MYTVET, My SKILLS. MY FUTURE is being executed by the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COVET) with the objective to inspire world class excellence on skills development and to introduce the Youth to a variety of skilled careers, the use of tools such Competition, TVET clubs in junior High Schools as well TVET ambassadors and Role Models.

The Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COVET) was established by an Act of Parliament, (Act 718) of the Republic of Ghana in August 2006 with the prime functions of coordinating and formulating national policies on skills development across the pre-tertiary and tertiary levels of education, in both the formal and informal sectors of the economy.

Just like most countries in Africa, Ghana’s population is largely youthful that, according to the Untied States (US) census Bureau (International Data Base) in 2019, 59.4% of the over all population of Africa is below the age of 25.

Whiles the share of Ghana’s population under the age of 35 years is 75.3% (Ghana Statistical Service 2013).

Even though this indicates a great potential and resource for Ghana, most of the Youth are not skilled or ill-prepared for the labour market.

The MYTVET campaign will focus on five main areas, mainly Career guidance and counselling, tvet Clubs in Junior High Schools, Skills Competition, TVET ambassadors and role models and Interactive TVET web portal.
