In efforts to ensure the realization of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo vision to intensify ICT education in the country, as well as to encourage the youth to participate in the technological advancement world, the Minister for Communications, Mrs. Ursula Owusu Ekuful, on Friday, 12th June, 2020, commissioned an ultra modern ICT laboratory at New Century Career Training Institute (NCCTI) at Dansoman in the Ablekuma West Municipality.
The purpose of the ICT centre is to train and make ICT skills and technology common to every individual.
Also present at the ceremony were, the Manageress of NCCTI, Madam Rita Gyening; the Municipal Chief Executive of Ablekuma West, Mr. George Bray; Assembly Woman, Madam Akua Amankwa; the Chief Director of Ministry of Communications, Mrs Magdalene Apenteng; Director of Operations at GIFEC, Alhaji Zackaria Yahaya Osman as well as some officials from the Ministry of Communications and GIFEC.
Addressing the gathering, the mangeress of the Institute, Madam Rita Gyening explained that, the existing ICT laboratory centre became active when Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication (GIFEC) donated 20 pieces of computer in 2010.
The items received to stock the lab, according to Madam Gyening were 15 pieces of computer, a printer and a projector which would help the residents to live in a technology dominated environment. She assured that the tools would be put to good use to serve the purpose for which they were donated.
On her part, the Communications Minister, Mrs Ursula Owusu Ekuful indicated that capacity building is an essential most component of digitization and the need to equip institutions with the requisite tools to train students to gain the required knowledge relevant to technology in the society.
In this regards, she called on the public to make the use of technology a necessity and utilize the skills in the various programmes as the President is poised to enhance Information, Communications and Technology in the country especially among young people.
“The President vision on ICT is on track so let us all support”, she added.
On the fight against COVID-19, she used the ocassion to advise trainees as well the public to adhere and observe the safety protocols whenever they visit the ICT centre to avoid the spread of the novel COVID-19 pandemic.
