‘Mahama’s 10 billion infrastructure promise is a falacy’- Sammy Awuku

Written by ...

The huge infrastructure transformation promised by the Flagbearer of the main opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has been described as an avenue he intends to enrich himself and not to transform the ordinary lives of Ghanaians.

According to the National Organiser of the ruling ruling party, New Patriotic Party (NPP), the promise by John Mahama is a falacy and need not to be taken serious.

To him Sammy Awuku, it is of need for Ghanaians to treat the $10 billion promise with contempt.

“Former President Mahama is going to use such avenue to himself should he return to power”, he asserted.

Sammy Awuku made these assertions at a press briefing on Thursday, August 13, 2020 in Accra, Ghana.

To him, it is important for Ghanaians not to give the former President, H.E John Dramani Mahama the opportunity to inflate costs of projects or infrastructures as he did during his tenure as President of the Republic, hence enriched himself.

Former President and now flagbearer for his party NDC in the upcoming December Presidential elections has revealed that, he would inject US$10 billion into infrastructure, hence create numerous job opportunities for the citizenry when voted for come December polls.

This was in response to President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo programme to help Ghana’s economy recover from the crisis of COVID-19 pandemic.

This response Sammy Awuku describes as a knee-jerk reaction to Nana’s programme therefore urged Ghanaians to disgrad Mahama’s promise.

“In 2013, working with his good friend, Roland Aganbri amidst the great fanfare, Mr Mahama went to cut the sod for the US$10 billion Hope City project promising thousands of jobs in the process not knowing he had not even acquired the land for the project,” Sammy Awuku alleged.

According to him, even though Mahama claims the US$10 billion infrastructure boost will create jobs for the youth, nothing of the sort will happen, but rather, a financial scandal is what will be left for Ghanaians.

Therefore cautioned Ghanaians to be extremely careful with such promises from John Mahama, as he does not have any interest in the outcome of any projects and how it will benefit Ghanaians.

“When he also says he is going to build projects, Ghanaians should be extremely careful and be worried because of the inflated cost of these projects”, he said

Adding “He is not interested in the outcome of the project and the impact it would have on Ghanaians neither is he interested in value for money”, he claimed.

The National Organiser of the ruling party, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Sammy Awuku used the ocassion to advise Ghanaians saying “So, when he says he is going to invest billions in infrastructure, Ghanaians must treat it not as a promise but as a threat, not as an infrastructural solution but a financial scandal. It must not draw you closer towards him but borrow his legs and run away with it,”
