COVID-19: Municipalities in Bono Region Embark on Disinfection Exercise

As Ghana active cases with regards to Coronavirus rises to One thousand, One hundred and thirty nine (1.139), Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies across the country has started the disinfectuon of markets, social places, funeral grounds, offices to stop the spread of the virus.

The exercise is in collaboration with Zoomlion Ghana Limited, the pacesetters in the fight against COVID-19 and waste management in the country.

Briefing the media on the disinfection exercise in the Sunyani Minicipal and West Municipal in the Bono region today, Monday 9th November,2020, the Municipal Chief Executive Officer (MCE) for Sunyani Municipal, Madam Owusu Banahene Obaatanpa Justina explained that, the exercise is of importance as the country active cases arises.

Indicating that, this is the Assembly efforts to help government fight the spread of the virus and protect the lives of the ordinary Ghanaians.

“It is necessary we embark on this disinfection of markets, social places and parks as well offices as our cases rises”, she emphasized.

The Sunyani Municipal MCE acknowledged the support and co-operation of the various market queens and lorry parks executives and urged them to continue supporting the Assembly to enhance and develop the township.

She therefore called on them to continue to adhere to the various protocols laid down by the President of the Republic in the combat of COVID-19.

“Let us continue to wash our hands thoroughly with soap, the use of sanitizers, observing social distance at public functions, work, home and meeting places not forgetting the wearing of the nose mask properly any time we step out of our comfort zone,” she urged.

On her part, the Managing Director of Zoomlion Ghana Limited in the Bono and Hafo regions, Mrs. Esther Asadoo Abayeta explained that, this is the 3rd phase of market disinfection since the emergence of COVID-19 in Sunyani, Bono region.

Affirming the words of the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive Officer (MCE), she said, her outfit deems it important and neccessary to partner with the Assembly to disinfect 100 markets in the Bono region.

This is as a result of the high rise of cases in the three Bono regions with regards to COVID-19.

Whereby, over 300 markets are to be disinfected in the three Bono regions namely, Bono, Bono East and Hafo Regions in the coming days of the week.

Furthermore, the exercise is to ensure that, the COVID-19 does not spread hence safeguarding the lives of the ordinary citizens in the Bono region and its environs.

Mrs. Esther Asadoo Abayete attributes the current rise of active cases to the current political activities ongoing in the country due to the upcoming general elections.

“Because of the political campaigns and activities, many people think the COVID-19 pandemic is no more with us but i can assure you that, the pandemic is around and till with us”, she emphasized.

Mrs. Abayeta however pleaded with Ghanaians not to politicize the Coronavirus pandemic indicating that, the pandemic does not know any political party or colour hence, real that, it is important to adhere to preventive measures to reduce its spread.

“We should try our best to stop the spread of COVID-19 and avoiding huge crowd and social places”, she noted

Eleven (11) Spraying guns, four (4) Atomisers took part in today’s exercise.

Markets and social places in the Sunyani Municipal that benefitted from the disinfection exercise are as follows: Sunyani Daily Market, Sunauni Charcoal Market, Nana Bosma Market, Abesim Daily Market, Atronie Market, Baakonuaba Market, Kotokrom Market, New Dormaa market and the Sunyani Coronation Park.

For Sunyani West, these markets benefitted from the disinfection exercise, namely: Nsoatre Daily, Domasua Market, Fiapre Market, Odumase Maize Market, Odumase Nsansama Market, Odumase Kwatrentu and Chiraa Daily Market.

Markets that got disinfected in the Wenchi Municipal are as follows: Wench Daily Market, Wenchi Thursday market, Amponsah Krom Market, Subinso Market, Nkyeraa Market and Akrobi Market.

In all, about five hundred (500) staff of Zoomlion Ghana Limited are engaged in the week long market and social places disinfection exercise in the Bono, Bono East and Hafo regions.
