The  Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), has received three (3) new refuse compactor trucks from the  Zoomlion Ghana limited to support the implementation of the ‘Operation Clean Your Frontage’ initiative and improve waste collection in the city.

Each of the double axial heavy-duty trucks has a capacity to take a volume of 20 cubic metres of loose waste which translates into servicing 3000 households within the service area.

The ‘Operation Clean Your Frontage’ initiative which is expected to take off from February 1st, 2022 and is spearheaded by the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC) seeks to make it obligatory for all individuals and corporate entities to clean and green their frontages to complement the government’s vision of making Accra the cleanest city in Africa.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony held at the Accra City Hall, Chief Executive of the AMA, Hon Elizabeth Kwatsoe Sackey expressed appreciation to Zoomlion for the support and the GARCC under whose auspices the initiative was spearheaded adding that the trucks had come in at an opportune time.

“I am very privileged to have these trucks especially at the time when the Assembly has no equipment readily available for waste collection  … The trucks have come at an opportune time and I am hopeful it will go a long way to help improve waste collection in the city,” she said.

She pointed out that the Assembly was currently sensitizing stakeholders including the public and corporate institutions on the modalities ahead of its implementation.

She urged traders to organise their refuse in bins to ensure efficient collection of waste in the markets and assured that refuse would be emptied promptly.

Public Jobs Manager at Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Mr Raphael Lokko in a remark noted that the support was in line with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s vision to make Accra the cleanest city in the West African sub-region by the end of his tenure of office.
