Asante Kotoko staged a strong defence to claw a point against Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park on Saturday – thanks to goalkeeper, Danlad Ibrahim’s late penalty save.
The Porcupine Warriors were guests of Berekum Chelsea in week 13 and could have lost all three points when referee Jones Akubiem virtually gifted the former champions an 82nd minute penalty.
However, 2021 AFCON U-20 winning goalkeeper, Danlad Ibrahim read the direction perfectly by grabbing Stephen Anorkye Boadu’s 81st minute kick with the game eventually ending goalless.
In an interview with StarTimes’ Jude Acheampong, Kotoko Coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum concurred with the journalist’s assertions that the referee’s penalty call was out of place.
The lecturer has equally give rave reviews about goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim for saving the situation for the two time African champions.
“You [journalist] have said it that the ball hit the stomach so if you are telling me this, you had the opportunity to watch the replay.
“So if you are telling me that the ball hit the stomach, then it means it was not a penalty. “You are telling me so I’m basing on what you said,” Prosper Narteh Ogum told StarTimes.
“But I was very confident, if you saw me I called Danlad, I spoke to him, I told him to keep his calm, watch the ball and pick his spot and that was exactly what he did.” Prosper Narteh added.
The record Ghana Premier League holders have 27 points, three better than second place Aduana Stars and four ahead of King Faisal and Medeama.
Their next step is an away game to Medeama at the Akoon Park in Tarkwa for week 14.
