Asante Kotoko’s quest to win the Ghana Premier League title for the first time in eight seasons increased following a 1-0 win over Medeama on Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The Porcupine Warriors per the slim win stretched their lead at the summit of the table to 30 points – six better than second place, Aduana Stars who have an outstanding fixture just like Kotoko.

A nerve-wracking encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium saw the record Ghana Premier League holders finally pull the plug on the Mauve and Yellow in front of a sizable fans in attendance.

Cameroonian import, Georges Mfegue was the heroe of the moment with his solitary strike separating the two sides.

Kotoko did not only carry the day but gave fans and viewers quality football laced with incisive passes, great anticipation and awareness.

Head coach, Prosper Narteh says he saw the best of his team in weeks. “I think I saw the best of my team today, we were very patient on the ball, we saw a lot of the ball, we made intelligent decisions on the ball, we created a lot of spaces on the field of play and we utilized those spaces,I’m impressed” Prosper Narteh told StarTimes.

“I think this is the best performance I have seen especially in the first half. We were dominant, we controlled the tempo and the temperament of the game.

“We were just on top of the game especially in the first half.” Prosper Narteh added.

Asante Kotoko have won the Ghana Premier League a record 24 times and the 2021/22 seasons like theirs for the taking having taken six points’ lead.

Their next games will be against Great Olympics at the Baba Yara Stadium on Saturday, January 29.
