Written by ...

The rumour mill has it that a former Hearts of Oak midfielder is set to make a return to the club following a patchy sojourn abroad.

Hearts of Oak lost some key players on a free after failure to renew their contract following its expiration. Other players have also left the club on loan in a bid to get more playing time or for greener pastures. One player who left on loan to American club on loan for greener pastures is Congolese left back, Raddy Ovouka. The 22-year-old Ovouka joined New Mexico United on loan with the club having an option to make the deal permanent after the loan spell. Two key players namely, Nuru Sulley and Emmanuel Nettey have also left the club with Nettey refusing to renew his contract and Nuru Sulley leaving the club on mutual grounds.

Sulley, a defender and Nettey, midfielder have since joined Iraqi club, Duhok SC and have so far gone on to make their debut. Prior to these players leaving the club, midfielder, Benjamin Afutu left the club to sign for Egypt side, El-Sharkia Dokhan club. The rock solid midfielder joined the Egyptian Premier League side in a 3-year deal but his club has been far from impressive in the Egyptian top flight this season. The club has managed to claw just a point from eight premier league matches this season and are bottom of the log. Afutu has enjoyed some game time but with relegation staring them in the face, it’s unlikely the Ghanaian will want to stay at the club if they drop out of the top flight.

Reports indicate that, Afutu might make a return to the Ghana Premier League should he leave the Egyptian club. The perfect destination might former club, Hearts of Oak who are in dire need of a defensive midfielder. Since Afutu’s departure, Hearts of Oak have managed to rope in Abu Ushau from Berekum Chelsea but he has been far from his exploits at the Bibires. Afutu’s return could be a big boost for coach Samuel Boadu’s side of the reports circulating are true.
